Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) blogger Dikembe Disembe has taken issue with Deputy President William Ruto's remarks during Thursday's National Prayer Breakfast at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.
The DP recalled his early life as a son of a peasant father, narrating how he suffered during his childhood and had to work his way up.
He added that he had a lot to thank God than most of the attendees, in a function that was also attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Dikembe on Thursday poked holes into the remarks, noting that the DP was trying to put himself above everyone else.
He said that Ruto was simply trying to imply that he has employed a lot of effort to reach his level, coming from a poor family, insulting the other guests in the process.
He noted that the remarks were directly aimed at the president, and Ruto was trying to rubbish Uhuru's efforts that handed him the top post because he comes from a rich family, terming Ruto's remarks as insulting.
"Yesterday listening to DP Ruto I got the impression his boss (the son of a President) didn’t do anything to occupy his current position. As Ruto toiled, shoeless, hungry, clothless, etc; the son of the President just enjoyed life and boom, Hightable! Kind of insulting!" he tweeted.
Ruto also linked his background to his geneeousity, saying that he will not stop contributing to charity despite the criticism he has been subjected to by the opposition.
