The visit comes as part of the many activities the Senators have lined up in Eldoret town during their inaugural ‘Senate Mashinani’.

Top in the legislators’ agenda during the visit is considering the Big Four Agenda in affordable health care.

This is keeping in mind that MTRH is the second largest public health facility in the country that serves locals in the North Rift region and parts of the western region.

The committee will also address issues of the hospitals funding as well as receive views from the MTRH management, Vice Chancellor of Moi University and Heads of Department (HoDS) at the university’s School of Medicine.

Moi University is a key partner of MTRH.

A visit by the Senate Committee comes at a time there are ongoing plans to set up an ultra-modern hospital in Eldoret town to replace the existing referral hospital.

The 2,000-bed hospital will sit on a 200-acre piece of land at Kiplombe on the outskirts of Eldoret town.

Construction works for the hospital are at the procurement stage and with squatters that were living in the land already evicted, the groundbreaking ceremony is expected soon.
