Moi who ruled for more than two decades only joined the family and friends at the graveside of Jonathan.

He reportedly watched all the proceedings on TV before he was driven to his son’s resting place.

It also emerged that he did not alight from his silver Range Rover that was parked just next to his late son’s grave because his health condition could not warrant the same.

Bishop Silas Yego of the African Inland Church (AIC) conducted all the final rites during the funeral before taking soil to Mzee.

In his short message, the former head of State said: “go in peace my son. I will see you later.”

Thousands of mourners from all walks of life thronged the home of the deceased to pay him the last respect as he was laid to rest.

Deputy President William Ruto was among the high profile guests who attended the service.

Ruto met his political rival Baringo Senator and KANU Leader Gideon Moi at the service.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM Leader Raila Amolo Odinga were absent during the event. The duo travelled to China on official government duty.
