When Mwangi Kiunjuri was sacked on Tuesday by President Uhuru Kenyatta, he was quick to say that the action didn't catch him by surprise.
Kiunjuri has been attending a host of political meetings especially in Mt Kenya region, a move that could have angered the president.
Previously, Uhuru had warned ministers against politicking, something that also cost Rashid Echesa his job last year.
However last year, Uhuru blasted Kiunjuri in Namibia when the head of state was meeting Kenyans living in Windhoek.
At that time, Uhuru wondered why Kiunjuri was not taking notes when the members of the diaspora were raising questions.
"I am looking at my brother Mwangi Kiunjuri who has just opened his notepad to write what I am saying. But he is not interested in writing what these Kenyans are saying," Uhuru said.
"He forgets that he is a minister of the Republic of Kenya and whatever that is said he should be interested to know what it is these people are telling us," Uhuru went further to say amid laughter from those present.
Even before that, Uhuru had also questioned Kiunjuri's inability to handle the maize crisis, which had also paralysed government operations.
''Kiunjuri, the time for play is over. You must find out who these cartels are and we will jail them. Lest you pay the price,'' Uhuru told him, referring to those behind the woes of Kenyan farmers.
