The secretary general of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) has paid the chairman of the Luhya Council of Elders a visit ahead of the much-hyped Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting at Bukhungu Stadium.
The high profile meeting was revealed by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) communications director Phil Etale on Twitter.
According to the Etale tweet, the COTU boss took time to brief the Luhya Council of Elders chairperson on preparations for the Bukhungu event.
"COTU SG @AtwoliDza today visited Chairman of Luhya Council of Elders Hon. Wangamati at his home in Khachonge in Kabuchai Bungoma County and briefed him on preparations for the Saturday #BBI rally at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega #WesternNiBBI, " Phil Etale revealed on his Twitter handle.
The Bukhungu meeting, to be held this coming weekend, has sent jitters across the political scene with a number of top Luhya leaders vowing to boycott over concerns that the meeting is aimed at endorsing a presidential candidate.
Among those who have vowed to boycott the meeting is Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula who doubles up as the Ford-Kenya party leader.
Atwoli has denied claims that the meeting is a ploy to endorse a presidential candidate.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga is expected to grace the rally.
