In a statement he shared on his Facebook page on Sunday, Sonko wondered why the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the police decided to send more than 25 police cars and chopper to arrest him yet there was an attack in Wajir.

He lamented that his political stand is among the reasons he has been facing the problems and claimed that there is a plan to silence him because of his vocal nature.

The county boss however said he will not bow to pressure from any side.

"I am convinced that my arrest was politically schemed and designed to humiliate and embarrass me. There was no point for the deployment of a police helicopter, more than 25 police cars, and 200 police officers to locate and arrest me, while we all know that, on the same material day, there was terror attack in Wajir County where the chopper with this kind of reinforcement, deployment and operation was needed," Sonko said in part of his statement.

The governor also called upon his supporters to remain calm as he seeks to clear his name over graft.

He reminded them that the stability of Nairobi is important than anything else even as he also expressed optimism that he will walk away scot-free after the trial.

"Lastly and most importantly,  I wish to call upon ALL my loyal supporters and well-wishers to remain calm and stay at home or go to their usual places of work from tomorrow (Monday), as I get processed to appear before a court of law," noted Sonko.
