President Uhuru Kenyatta has hinted at leaving office after his term expires in 2022.
Speaking on Sunday at the African Inland Church in Nairobi, the Head of State left his audience in stitches when he said that he also has to attend to family matters, as he would not be in his job for life.
"You know you are not in your job for life, finally I will have to go back to my family, I have to take care of my family too. (Naunajua si mtu atakuwa kazi maisha, baadae nitakwenda kwa familia, lazima nichunge huko pia)," the president said. (2:22-2:29)
The Head of State is in his second and final term and is expected to hand over the instruments of power, after the 2022 general election.
A section of politicians in the country have called for a constitutional amendment, that will ensure President Uhuru Kenyatta is eligible to run for office.
Leading that pack is Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli.
Uhuru has is in the past divulged that after 2022, he will go home and be with his family, adding that he is not interested in remaining in office.
Addressing elders in Nakuru early this month, the president reportedly said he will not seek a third term.
"He said he will not vie for the presidency in 2022 and he will be an ordinary raia (citizen) like us. He said he will not waste even a single minute after his term comes to an end and that is why he is keen on pushing for BBI that will distribute the national cake to all Kenyans,” one of the elders said as quoted by Nation.
