It was a big win for the Garissa county football team after becoming second in the just-completed Kenya Youth Inter County Sports held in Kapsabet, Nandi County.
At the finals, the Garissa team was beaten by the Kakamega County team by a 1-0 scoreline after they were allegedly denied an equaliser goal by the match officials.
Despite the loss, the team is proud to have reached finals.
According to sports and Social service CEC Zeinab Abdi Digale who had accompanied the team, their emerging first runner-up was a memorable achievement for the County.
"No one will ever underrate us in any National soccer game competition where we hitherto received a shocking knock out at the initial group stage'' Zeinab said as quoted by the Garissa County Press Unit.
In a further statement that sought to encourage the team after the loss, CEC Zeinab urged the players not to be demoralized but to now focus on the 2019 competitions.
"You are our heroes, we all salute you and disappointment of defeat should never kill you spirits to aim success in the 7th edition of next year '' added the Sports CEC.
The Garissa team was also accompanied by the chief officer of Sports and Youth affairs Abdirahman Hassan, County Director Mr Osman Godad and among other senior government officials.
