The Ministry of Interior Coordination of National Government has placed illegal firearms holders on notice prior to the mopping up of all the illegal arms in the country after the expiry of the 90-day moratorium.
The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Dr.Karanja Kibicho stated that the country will wipe out all the unlicensed firearms which pose a threat to the national security of communities and people.
This follows a meeting held by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr.Fred Matiangi when they assessed the progress of the ongoing vetting of the private firearms holders which is taking place at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Academy in South C Nairobi.
"Dr.Fred Matiangi and I assessed the progress of the ongoing vetting of private firearms holders at DCI Academy in South C," Dr.Karanja Kibicho tweeted.
He, however, reaffirmed the government's commitment to secure the nation from the private holders who use it illegally and posing threat to the wellbeing of individuals adding that the government will not extend the moratorium.
"After expiry of the 90-day moratorium, we will launch an extensive operation to mop up illegally or unlicensed firearms in the best interest of our country," added Kibicho.
Last year after concerns were raised by the public and the media over the Firearms and Licensing board, Dr.Fred Matiangi appointed new board members through a gazette notice.
