On Saturday, Mr Odinga discussed national reconciliation, unity and fight against corruption with Rift Valley leaders. He also asked them to vote with conscious without being coerced by anybody.

"Mama @IdaOdinga and I are pleased to have hosted a delegation of elders and leaders from Nakuru County at our home in Bondo. We had a discussion on a range of issues including National Unity and Reconciliation and the ongoing war on corruption," he said.

Locked in war of words with Deputy President William Ruto, Mr Odinga on Saturday lost ODM Vice Chairman and Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok to the former's camp.

And on Sunday, a close aide to Mr Odinga revealed that the former Prime Minister was locked in a meeting with Oparanya at Emabole but did not immediately disclose the issues that were discussed.

"H E Raila Odinga was earlier today hosted by Kakamega County Governor Wickliffe Oparanya at the governor's home. The two had a two-hours closed door meeting," wrote Philip Nyamai, an aide to Odinga at Capitol Hill.

The meeting comes at the time Western region is facing onslaught from DP Ruto, who is keen to shift the traditional voting style to the disadvantage of Odinga. Since 2017, Ruto has toured the region for more than 20 times.

Although he has managed to get grip of vocal former Kakamega Senator Bonnie Khalwale, most leaders including Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula have remained non committal to his course.

Mr Odinga has lately anchored his faith on Operanya, who has also expressed presidential ambitions. The deputy ODM leader has in the past warned that the party will not form coalition with cowards.

''We are not going to work with cowards again. Some people cheated us that we are together but when Raila went to Uhuru park to be sworn in they vanished in the thin air,'' Oparanya claimed

Mr Operanya is currently the Council of Governors chair, a post initially held by Nanok, who has joined Ruto's camp. Details of their meeting remain scanty but they as said to have discussed the Handshake with Uhuru and ODM's preparation to 2022.
