Ministries of Education and Interior officials are currently struggling to come to terms following shocking statics of Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education students battling with pregnancy.
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba on Monday confirmed that 58 girls are heavily pregnant and are sitting for exams which started on Monday.
Of the 58, Marina said, two are currently admitted at Manga Sub County Hospital and Nyamira County Referral Hospital due to their expected delivery.
"We have 58 girls who are pregnant and some about to deliver. Two are currently sitting for exams in the hospital under the supervision of officers," he said.
But even more shocking, seven candidates are yet to be traced, with police intensifying search across the county in a bid to trace them.
Mariba said of the missing students, five are girls and the rest boys. He said that they couldn't be accounted for in their respective schools.
"Police are working closely with parents to get hold of them. They cannot be accounted for and this is a concern for us. We shall push to normalise the situation," he said.
The statics could irk Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, who hails from the county. Matiang'i warned recently against cases of exam cheating.
Mariba asked members of the public with tip of on the missing students to report to authorities so that they are guided back to school.
