Njoro MP Charity Kathambi has spoken about Wednesday’s drama when President Uhuru Kenyatta visited Nakuru County.
In a video clip that went viral, a member of President Uhuru’s security team was seen confronting Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika.
Kathambi said the leaders from the region were in line to receive the President when two security officers ordered all Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to get off the line.
Top leaders who include Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, County Speaker Joel Kairu, Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama and the Senator Kihika were left to receive Uhuru.
Kathambi said the officers when they returned tried to block Kihika from greeting President Uhuru thinking she was one of the MCAs.
One of the officers, a woman who was dressed in civilian clothes, was seen attempting to slap the Senator for allegedly getting back in line before Arama and his Gilgil counterpart Martha Wangari intervened.
“When the two came back they found the Senator on the line. They thought she was one of the MCAs. The male security officer shouted at her ‘yaani MCAs hamsikii’ as he pushed her away,” said Kathambi as quoted by standardmedia.co.ke.
The Njoro MP added that the security officer later on pulled Senator Kihika aside to apologize after realizing his mistake.
Kathambi said the MCAs should have been given a chance to greet the President since it was their event as Uhuru was there to open the new Nakuru County Assembly.
“He apologised to her but it was wrong for them to handle her in such a manner. We request that they handle people with respect. None of us had bad intentions while receiving the President,” said Kathambi.
