A Chief Inspector of police identified as Kennedy Omondi was on Friday among three other Kenyans arrested by flying squad detectives for seeking to obtain bribes.
Inspector Omondi and the other suspects were arrested on Friday for being part of a scheme that was going to collect a Sh2 million bribe.
National Police Service through a statement shared widely on social media confirmed that Omondi and the other suspects were impersonating Immigration Department officials to defraud unsuspecting Kenyans.
Other three were Stanilus Otieno, Eddie Obwaka and Boniface Omengi.
"They asked for a bribe of Sh10 million and were going to collect Sh2 million when they were nabbed by the detectives. Two of them escaped with a pistol and ammunition being recovered," confirmed the DCI in a statement.
The arrests were made after a report was made by the complainants whose passports the inspector and his accomplices had confiscated.
