Former Garissa County Governor Nathif Jama has won the Global Islamic Finance Award (GIFA).
Jama won the award for pioneering the establishment of Islamic finance and banking in the country.
The former Wiper governor received the award last Saturday in Sarajevo, Bosnia.
He was presented the award by Bosnia President Bakir Izetbegovic.
The global award highlights best practices in Islamic banking.
It honors successful corporate institutions and individuals in the Islamic banking sector.
Jama has over 30 years’ experience in Islamic banking.
Before joining politics, the former governor was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the First Community Bank (FCB).
Jama lost re-election in the 2017 general election but there are claims that he could contest for the seat in 2022.
