President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda scored more goals during his three-day visit to Kenya than his host President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The visit was dubbed a bilateral talk visit.
According to the Nation, Museveni was smart in negotiations and secured better economic deals for his people as the Kenyan delegation tried to convince him to agree on the Standard Gauge Railway to go all the way to Kampala.
Uhuru agreed that Ugandan sugar exports quota into Kenya goes up from 36,000 to 90,000 metric tonnes.
Kenya also lifted the ban on Ugandan poultry, and to make the deal sweet for ‘our partner’, Uhuru offered Uganda a land in Naivasha for the construction of an inland dry port.
As Uganda’s goals were clearly cut out, it was difficult for the Kenyan team to tell Kenyans on what they had secured from the neighbor country.
Netizens hit out at Uhuru and his team accusing them of mortgaging the economy of the country. The ministry of foreign affairs dismissed the claim.
“Kenya gets crucial concessions on meat, juices and pharmaceutical products whose export to the Ugandan market had suffered heavily from imposition of heavy tariffs like the 12 per cent excise duty that Uganda has committed to waive,” Principal Secretary at the Foreign Affairs ministry Macharia Kamau said.
