At least 15 traffic officers were arrested on Wednesday, after being busted with Sh11,000 bribe believed to have been milked from motorists.
The officers who were manning a roadblock on Likoni - Lunga Lunga highway in Kwale County, were arrested by their seniors.
Kwale police boss David Kosgei said the officers were busted following a tip off from locals.
"We normally brief officers before we send them on duty and even after returning, we take them through a debrief on whatever case they reported, It’s so unfortunate that we found them with cash yet they reported no case," Kosgei said.
Kosgei said everyone found guilty will be dealt with according to the law.
"The situation is improving. Most motorists have adhered to the traffic rules. We are urging passengers to also adhere to these rules during and after the festive season."
An anonymous app was launched recently where Kenyans can take videos and pictures and upload them on the app to unveil rogue police officers and drivers on the roads.
Kenyans can also send a toll-free message on 40683 or call 0800721230 after which they will be provided with a tracking code for their complaints as a collective effort to reform the transport sector and restore sanity.
