Several roads in Eldoret town will be closed during the Eldoret City Marathon scheduled for Sunday, April 21.
According to Uasin Gishu Deputy County Police Commander Zacheus Ng’eno, the roads will be closed from 5:00 am to 12:00 pm.
“The road from Nyaru, Kaptagat will be closed at KCC Eldoret junction, Uganda road will also be closed. Roads from Nairobi to Kitale to Turkana will be closed at Annex school of law,” said Ng’eno while speaking to the press on Saturday.
Kapsabet and Ziwa road will also be closed.
“We will only allow ambulances and branded vehicles and soon the marathon is over the roads will be opened. Sorry for inconveniences caused,” he added.
The Director of the Eldoret City Marathon Moses Tanui said preparations are 95 per cent ready noting that 700 men, 200 women, and over 1000 fun racers have registered.
Foreign athletes from Qatar, Ethiopia, and Uganda have also registered. He said the race will start at the University of Eldoret and takes at least 20 turns before ending at Central Primary School in Eldoret town.
Athletes will take the first turn at Junction and then proceed to Uasin Gishu Veterinary Services offices. They then turn left to Coca Cola Company as they head towards Paul’s Bakery along Uganda Road.
They head to Mwanzo and Umoja estates en route to 64 Stadium then proceed to West Indies, Elgon view and Kapsoya before heading to the finish line at Zion Mall.
