The debate of whether President Uhuru Kenyatta will support Deputy President William Ruto during the 2022 general elections is one that has attracted the attention of many political commentators and experts.
Uhuru had during his campaign period declared that he will support DP Ruto in the 2022 elections but there appears to have been a fall out between the two that may affect the promise that Uhuru made.
Political analyst Prof Herman Manyora opines that Uhuru's supporters from the central region who are largely from the Kikuyu community may find an excuse not to support the Deputy President.
This, according to Prof Manyora who doubles up as a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, is because the community is known for acting unanimously in the context of supporting a presidential candidate.
The political analyst, therefore, advised for Ruto to tread carefully and avoid provoking or giving the community an excuse not to support his presidential bid.
“You can’t survive going against some of them. Supposing the BBI becomes the in-thing, anyone who goes against it will be floored. The truth is Kikuyu will always go in one direction. They will come up with all sorts of excuses to abandon Ruto; say we wanted to support Ruto but he started attacking our president,” Prof Manyora stated.
