Speaking to members of the press while flanked by other legislators, the MP shone a light on the source of the stalemate between the government and the betting companies.

Atandi revealed that the stalemate stemmed from a difference in the interpretation of the law on winnings by the betting companies and the Kenya Revenue Authority.

"When we did the finance bill, the last finance bill that is Finance Act 2018, there was a stale mate on the definition of winning tax and I think this is where the problem  is, " the Alego Usonga MP said

Samuel Atandi contended the betting companies and KRA were calculating the tax on winnings differently.

He branded the stalemate as simple and one that did not warrant the suspension of the betting firms licenses, promising that Parliament would seek to provide clarity on the winning tax law.

Betting firms affected have claimed that they have fully complied with the tax regulations and have branded the move to withdraw their licenses as unfair.
