A boda boda rider who has been plying Nyatieko-Kisii town route has gone into hiding after he allegedly killed a pedestrian on Monday evening.
It is alleged that Andrew Gekonde who was over speeding hit the deceased James Barongo while he was crossing the road.
Kisii police commander Martin Kibet the deceased was rushed to Bosongo hospital but, was pronounced dead on arrival.
"The rider escaped from the scene in fear of beating from members of the public. The residents' efforts to save the man's life didn't bore fruits since he died on arrival at the hospital," said Kibet.
He said a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the killer rider.
"Boda boda riders should cooperate and report to police whenever they will spot the suspect. Careless motorists won't be spared by the law," said the commander.
Kibet noted that the body of the deceased was moved to the hospital morgue waiting for burial.
He added that adding that pedestrians have also a right to use public roads.
"Riders who operate illegally with wearing protective gears such as helmet, reflectors, and shoes will be arrested to be taken to court," he stated.
