For the 18th record time within one year, Deputy President William Ruto will yet again return to populous Gusii region as race for 2022 polls gears up.
Last year alone, Ruto traversed the larger Gusii region a record fifteen times, managing to rally behind virtually all elected leaders apart from Senators Sam Ongeri and Okong'o Mogeni. Also, governors John Nyagarama and James Ongwae are yet to declare their support for him.
South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, a close confidant of Ruto, revealed that the DP would be in his constituency on Friday, barely three weeks after visiting the region with President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
"Kupanga kazi pole pole...wewe pia panga yako...tuonane South Mugirango-Tabaka ward and Moticho wards on Friday 15th March with H.E Dr.William Samoei Ruto, the Deputy President of Kenya," he wrote on Facebook.
It loosely translates to: "It's all about planning systematically. Let's meet at Tabaka and Moticho wards on Friday 15th March with H. E Dr William Ruto, the Deputy President of Kenya."
In total, Nyamira and Kisii Counties constitute 800, 000 of legitimate voters and the number could reach 1.3 million by the time IEBC starts another mass registration exercise across the country.
At Nyamira, Ruto recently launched Kemera-Gachuba-Keumbu road although the project is yet to commence. Not far from the region, Sh100 million he promised to Keroka District Hospital is yet to be disbursed.
The recent elevation of Dr Fred Matiang'i by President Uhuru Kenyatta has caused confusion among Gusii leaders, with those closely backing Dr William Ruto retreating perhaps to reinvent themselves.
