Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Lands Gideon Mung’aro was in Kisumu on Wednesday to meet various county stakeholders concerning the issuance of title deeds to schools and market centres.
Speaking in Kisumu after meeting Kisumu County Deputy Governor (DG) Dr Mathew Ochieng Owili, Mung'aro said that most schools and markets in the region lack title deeds, a move they intend to correct courtesy of a joint initiative between the county government and the Ministry of Lands.
“We have a special program called Shule Yangu (My School) Program where we want to ensure that all schools have title deeds,” he said.
He added that ministry officials continue to visit various counties in a bid to enhance service delivery.
This week, Mr Mung’aro visited in Busia, Vihiga and Kisumu Counties.
“We are here to enhance service delivery and the perception that when you come to the ministry of lands it is all about something small (in reference to giving and taking of bribes) has to end,” said the CAS.
On his part, Dr Owili said that the lack of land titles is a big blow to investor confidence which was a narrative they had to change for a better course.
“We have had a discussion and we have given our position to the State Department of lands that people of Kisumu need titles,” said the DG.
The initiative will see several schools and business entities receive deeds, a matter that has been a source of conflict in some parts of the county.
