Speaking during a memorial service of the deceased in Sotik on Friday, Obonyo said that Laboso was not tribal in any sense.

He noted that her selfless and accommodating nature could be among the reasons that made her marry him.

“Joyce did not concentrate on a region or a tribe and I think that was the reason why she married me. You are born whatever tribe but what did you do about it? Why do you stress others with your tribe?” he said.

Obonyo added that if he had a chance to marry someone else, he would still choose her over other women.

"She was a very good person and this is not something I am saying because she is lying there; she was a very good person," he said.

Laboso died on Monday after a long battle with cancer.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, and ODM leader Raila Odinga are among leaders who attended her memorial service at Green Stadium in Bomet.

The leaders have described her as a pillar of strength.
