If the handshake deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga is to be used as a political vehicle for the 2022 general election, who are the players the duo will recruit into their team?

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka will no doubt play a big role in the "Handshake Team" formation. He already supports it and recently stated that he will follow President Kenyatta's political direction.

As a key Raila loyalist and trusted ally in the Western Kenya region, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya is one of the most popular county chiefs in the country today. His support for BBI had never been in doubt. And as his term as Governor comes to an end, Oparanya may be keen to secure his political future away from the governorship.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is another man who is most likely to swing into the BBI political bandwagon. His warm relationship with both President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister makes him the man to deliver the Coast region votes.

After recently attending President Kenyatta's function in Garissa, Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi could be toning down his recent criticism of the government. Later, Lugari MP Ayub Savula emerged claiming that Mudavadi and the head of state are keen to enter into a political deal. But can it happen? Time will tell.

Though he has never stated his next political move especially after the collapse of NASA coalition, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula can easily be recruited into the alliance. His vast experience in politics can be an asset to the team.

Other likely heavyweights of the Uhuru-Raila political bandwagon include Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, his Makueni counterpart Kivutha Kibwana and Kitui's Charity Ngilu.

Should this alliance be formed, it will no doubt be one of the fiercest political team ever assembled in the history of Kenyan politics.
