More survivors have given their accounts about the Friday night accident at Awasi, which left 13 people dead and many more injured.
The accident involving a Nairobi-bound Eldoret Express bus and a trailer happened at Pala area near Awasi, within Kisumu County.
Among the survivors, who were admitted at the nearby hospitals, is Erickson Muli, a police constable stationed in Aram Police Station.
The officer who was headed home in Makueni for the holidays told journalists that he lost all his belongings in the incident, including gifts he had bought for his family.
He said that he lost consciousness after the accident, only to find himself in the hospital in the morning.
“I lost all my valuables, including foodstuff I had bought for my family. I found myself here in the morning with only one shoe and socks,” he said.
The bus conductor Peter Kamanda could not recount the happenings before the accident, only remembering screeches and screams.
Elizabeth Awino, who was headed to Nairobi from Bondo, was grateful to be alive.“My God! You are great! I thank you!” she said as nurses put her on pain relieving drips at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) in Kisumu.
Kisumu County Police Commander Benson Maweu said that the trailer turn boy is yet to be traced, while the driver of the same and that of the bus died in the accident.
Witnesses said that the bus driver was trying to overtake a reactor which had no rear lights, before crashing into the oncoming trailer.
