Several times, the nation has seen ODM leader Raila Odinga troop back to the same people who either assaulted or betrayed him politically, raising questions on his real intentions.
For instance, the former Premier is now not only close to President Uhuru Kenyatta who allegedly rigged him twice, but also Interior CS Fred Matiangi who had the police teargassed him and his allies before and after the 2017 polls.
This raises the questions on whether he is forgiving or forgetful, with the answer being forgiving, but with a hidden motive, power.
On several occasions, the leader has found himself in a situation where only his assailants and those related to the people who have politically brutalized his family can help him achieve his presidential goals.
This leaves him with no option but to embrace them, hoping that things will go well, as is the case with President Uhuru Kenyatta currently, where their truce is openly pointing at a pending post-2022 political formation.
Its worth noting that Uhuru is the son to Jomo Kenyatta, the man who betrayed Jaramogi Oginga (Raila's father) and denied Raila's brother Oburu a chance to go study in Russia, after as well putting Jaramogi under house arrest.
But Raila knows that he will need the incumbent's supoort.
Though Uhuru cannot make him President, he can link himnto the deep state, making his victory more realistic. At the same time, Uhuru's endorsement can do him good.
Recently, Raila paid a visit to former President Daniel Moi, the man who accused him of attempting to topple him in the 1982 coup and detained him for several years.
While many would term Raila as forgetful, he must have realized that Moi's previous conduct towards him cannot outweigh the power he is said to enjoy as part of the deep state.
About Matiangi, Raila most likely wantsbto further penetrate into Uhuru's heart and displace his deputy William Ruto, whom he initially promised to endorse as his successor.
And with Matiangi appearing to have won Uhuru's heart, resulting in him being made the most powerful minister, relating well with him would make Raila more likely to achieve his goal.
To prove that he is a man with a big heart, Raila recently met a group of leaders from Rift Valley at his Capitol Hill offices, among them former Interior PS Zakayo Cheruiyot, one of the strongmen during Moi's era.
Its during this era that Raila suffered the most, was thrown into prison, into exile, and has blamed for his watery eyes.
