The court on Thursday allowed the embattled county boss to substitute his Sh15 million cash bail with a surety of a similar amount.

The county boss had placed the amount to secure his release in an ongoing case where he is accused of engaging in corruption.

The request was granted afer he told the court that he is financially overwhelmed and needs the money to finance his daily operations.

He is facing several graft charges which have seen him barred from accessing his office, with his deputy James Nyoro taking over as the county boss.

He is accused of receiving over Sh25 million from Testimony Enterprises Limited which is involved in deals with the county government.

The prosecution told the court during Waititu's arraignment that this was allegedly done in collaboration with his wife Susan Wangare.

The two are also accused of several other graft charges touching on the county, including dealing in suspect property.

Upon their arraignment, the couple, and four other suspects denied the charges.

Nyoro has continued to discharge county duties even after Waititu's insistence that the court order preventing him from accessing his office never took away his executive powers.
