This is in a bid to about being attacked by hippos habiting in the river.

This was said on Saturday by David Kaindi Mutwiwa a Warden in Machakos.

Mutwiwa said that the hippos come out of the water in the evenings to find food and any encounter with them wouldn't be safe.

"The residents should do their activities in the river between morning and afternoon but in the evenings they should keep off the river," said Mutwiwa on phone.

He went ahead to say that by any chance the residents come across hippos with a cub they should flee citing that a female hippo with a kid is very aggressive dangerous.

"In a bid to protect its calf it will attack anyone near it and so residents shouldn't even go near a hippo with a cub, it will be like signing your own death," he said.

He, however, urged residents to notify the Kenya Wildlife service if they spot any aggressive hippo.

"We will immediately make plans to ensure it's tamed before it attacks people," he said.

On Thursday evening a 35-year-old man was attacked and killed by a hippo on the banks of river Athi as he was fishing.
