Kitui County is among nine counties that will benefit from Sh5 Billion donation from the government of Hungary.
Governor Charity Ngilu’s government will receive a whopping Sh50 million donation to establish a modern abattoir.
Speaking at the county offices on Friday when she hosted the Head of Economic Affairs at the Embassy of Hungary in Nairobi Tamas Sandor Robert, Ngilu welcomed the donation, saying it will boost the county’s economic development.
The governor noted that the project will revive the livestock sector and create jobs.
Ngilu added that the project will boost and encourage value addition on livestock products.
“The ultra-modern livestock will accommodate value addition on livestock products in packaging, branding and leather processing,” she said after signing the deal.
Governor Ngilu disclosed that her government is also working with the government of Hungary on areas of irrigation technology.
The Kitui county boss said that her focus is on food security.
“Kitui people have suffered for decades for lack of food and our key focus as a government is to guarantee food security, provision of water and quality healthcare services,” she added.
Other counties set to benefit from the government Hungary's donation is Isiolo, Laikipia, Nakuru, Machakos, Baringo, Meru, West-Pokot and Uasin Gishu.
