A 60-year-old woman from Suneka area in Kisii county escaped death on Wednesday morning after angry son-in-law burnt down her home accusing her of practicing witchcraft.
According to some of the witnesses drama begun when Elijah Nyangweso stormed into Jemimah Onga’s home accusing her of teaching his wife sorcery as well as causing the death of their eldest son who was in class 6.
A villager Erick Kenani who witnessed the incident said the man stormed his mother-in-law’s home having a panga as well as petrol and immediately started pouring it on the two houses in the compound before lighting the fire.
“The man said her mother in law was a witch and accused her of teaching her wife how to go about it as well as said she was directly linked to the death of his son,” said Kenani.
Confirming the incident, the local Chief, Jared Onyancha said that he had advised the complainant and his family to report the matter at the Gesonso police station for remedial action to be taken against the attacker.
The chief said that the family refused to seek help from the police because they feared that the villagers might attack again if they involved the police.
Onyancha added that it was still unclear whether the allegations were true since most of the locals were not aware of the account.
