Emerging details indicate that opposition leader Raila Odinga’s firstborn son the late Fidel Odinga was a kind-hearted fellow who never saw any harm in giving.

According to the Standard, Julius Ochieng’ a distant relative of the Odinga’s, Fidel was a close friend who always left him ‘something’ whenever he visited his grandfather Jaramogi Oginga’s home in Bondo, Siaya county.

Ochieng’, an experienced grave-digger, would later lead the squad that dug Fidel’s grave at the Kang’o Ka Jaramogi gravesite on January 7, 2015.

He is also the person behind 2 other graves in the site, after crafting Raila’s sister Margaret Odinga’s resting place in 1996, two years after Jaramogi’s death.

In 1999, he again led his team in digging the grave for Shadrack Osewe, Jaramogi’s last born son.

However, despite terming Fidel’s grave as tricky due to his prominence in the society, Ochieng’, did not ask for payment, terming it the time to payback for the fallen hero’s kindness.

‘’This is a serious funeral and we would wish to do a perfect job which shows respect for the fallen young hero,’’ he told the Standard.

Fidel who was found dead in his Karen home in Nairobi on January 4, 2015, was buried on January 10.
