Speaking on Saturday in Lamu, where he was leading a funds drive for a women’s Sacco, the unionist claimed the hotel has all its workers as casuals.

He added that the workers are underpaid by the management with the highest paid staff allegedly earning Sh20,000.

“This man Ruto I ask God that he does not become president. In his Weston hotel, he is exploiting workers. Workers are casuals and the highest paid gets Sh20,000. How will Kenya be if he becomes president,” Atwoli said.

The claims could not, however, be independently verified.

According to the hotel’s website, Weston is a four-star hotel. It boasts of being a classic, luxurious hotel tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the Nairobi Central Business District.

“Designed to be a comfortable home away from home for discerning business and holiday guests, we are the ideal choice of hotels for exploring Nairobi’s iconic attractions and an abundance of renowned shopping destinations, including the popular Galleria Mall and The Hub, which is one of East Africa’s largest malls,” the website says.
