A section of residents of Likoni Constituency, Mombasa County held a demonstration on Friday to demand compensation for the Dongo Kundu road.
Speaking to members of the press, the residents said that they had not received the compensation in spite of being eligible and being promised that they would be compensated.
They said that they had engaged authorities on the compensation issue but the authorities had not come clean over the issue.
"I have not been compensated yet I had been given an award (Hakika sikulipwa fidia ila nilipewa award)," Irene Wavinya, a resident of Likoni told Citizen TV.
Bakari Hassan, another resident who has been affected by the road construction said that they were worried and called on the government to ensure that they are compensated.
The Dongo Kundu Road will connect Mombasa and Kwale counties.
Earth-movers that will be brought to bear on the road construction have already started their work.
The road is being constructed by Japanese contractors.
President Uhuru Kenyatta met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and had a discussion on the construction of the road.
"During the talks, the PM said Japan will continue supporting Kenya's ambition to achieve #UHC through PPP arrangements. The two leaders also agreed that with the support of the Japanese government, Kenya will fast track commencement of Dongo Kundu SEZ & construction of Likoni Gate bridge," State House Kenya said in a tweet.
