Three middle-aged men were on Tuesday arrested by police in Keumbu over allegations of selling and smoking bhang.
Keumbu chief Kennedy Kaunda confirmed the arrest of the three suspects whose identity could not be revealed immediately.
"We have been tracking down the suspects who are notorious bhang sellers and smokers in Keumbu. A member of the public who spotted them entering an abandoned house to smoke bhang alerted me before I notified Keumbu police officers who responded quickly," said the chief as reported by local vernacular radio station, Egesa FM.
The administrator noted that the suspects attempted to avoid arrest by wrestling the police officers.
Kaunda confirmed that the suspects were each nabbed with a roll of bhang which they were smoking in the abandoned house.
Kisii Police Commander Martin Kibet appealed to local youths to stop engaging in drug abuse, noting that the law will not spare anyone found using illegal drugs.
"The suspects are helping police with more information which could lead to the arrest of more suspects before they can be arraigned in court. Parents need to be vigilant and cooperate with police to ensure the use of illegal drugs among youths comes to an end," said Kibet.
