ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has revealed that the government has called on the Chinese filmmakers to enjoin Kenya and India in a collaboration that will develop the Kenyan film industry.
Speaking during the inauguration of the new board of directors of the Kenya Film Commission, Mucheru pointed out that Kenya has negotiated a deal with China to empower their film industry.
“We have brought the Chinese Film Week after the India Film Week which happened earlier this year, these two markets alone are close to 3 billion people that want to watch our films,” he said as quoted by K24 Digital.
The CS noted that the film sector is an important area that citizens use to preserve their culture and even get employment opportunities.
The collaboration of the three countries will see more than five films shot in the country.
“We are glad that the board has accepted to take up the challenge that they have been given to create jobs for the youth by attracting many more film producers,” Mucheru said.
The Kenya Film Commission board installed their new leaders who include; Dorothy Ghettuba (chairperson), Timothy Owase (chief executive officer), Ernest Kerich, Sarah Migwi, Eunice Wangeci Macharia, Asif Karim and Gideon Ole Moses Saruni.
