Residents of Ikonge area in Nyamira County have been left in shock after a middle-aged house girl went to court to stop the burial of her boss of eight years.
The house girl, Caroline Nyaboke, said her boss' body should be buried in the piece of land they bought together, noting that if this fails to happen, the family of the deceased should recognise her as the second wife.
According to Nyaboke, the deceased, Joseph Mairura, is the father of her four-year-old son.
The funeral ceremony which was set to be held today (Friday), was cancelled following a court order that stopped the burial until the issue is resolved.
"I have a child with the man and I have a home that we constructed together near Nyamira town, and if the family doesn't accept me as the second legal wife, then I'll seek a court order to allow me to bury my husband at a home that we constructed together," said Nyaboke.
Confirming the incident, the family spokesperson Daniel Onchieku said they were served with a court order on Thursday stopping the burial of the late Mairura.
Onchieku noted that the family is pursuing the matter so as to find the way forward.
"We were not aware that Mairura had another home because we knew the girl as their house girl and not his official wife. However, we will soon know the truth," said Onchieku.
