Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot lashed at the veteran scholar, arguing that his predecessor Amina Mohammed, was fairly good in the docket.

According to Cheruiyot, a close ally of DP William Ruto, Prof Magoha 'thinks that Kenya is the University of Nairobi' where he used to serve as Vice Chancellor.

"Over time , Kenyans will realise how well @AMB_A_Mohammed meant and was fit for Education ministry. She handled CBC and north eastern teachers fiasco so well, but the system kicked her out. Magoha will fail spectacularly. Kenya is not UON. You can't rubbish stakeholders," wrote Cheruiyot.

A standoff has been witnessed in the education ministry, with teachers' union KNUT asking members to boycott the Competence Based Curriculum due to the ministry's lack of coordination.

Blogger Abraham Mutai also accused the minister of being arrogant, questioning his attitude towards other education stakeholders across the country.

"CS George Magoha thinks he can use his arrogance to fix the broken education sector in Kenya. There is something sinister about educated arrogant people. They create perfect enemies of the people. Mobilize to tell him we hired him. Not the other way round. Work in total silence," he said.

Despite the opposition, Prof Magoha has vowed to ensure the new curriculum is implemented by the end of 2019.
