Raila Odinga Junior has lauded Kibra MP Ken Okoth’s push for the legalisation of marijuana in the country.
Junior said the Bill by the Kibra MP should be passed by the National Assembly and for the government to draw up regulations for growth and use of the herb.
The former Prime Minister’s son said it is time the country started talking about marijuana instead of avoiding it yet it keeps affecting the society.
He said the government should take advantage of the drug which has a lot of medicinal and financial benefits.
According to Junior, the sale of marijuana can be a source of revenue to the country and that it can also be used to ease chronic pain of cancer victims, treat HIV patients and is an appetizer.
“Recently, I posted on social media, with a great feeling that there’s need to legalise marijuana, as it is something that can help Kenya, especially sick people who will need marijuana for their treatment,” he said.
“From that Bill, marijuana can be prescribed just like any other medication. It should not be something you get on the streets, but something a medical doctor will have to prescribe for anyone who qualifies to use, administer and monitor just like any other drugs,” Junior added.
