Tana River Governor Dhadho Godhana has appealed to residents to heed the warning of the floods and move to safer grounds.

Garissa residents living along the river have also been urged to ensure they move to higher grounds as the rains start this week.

Speaking to journalists on Monday in Hola, the governor said some of the residents have refused to move out of flood-prone areas.

Mr Godhana warned that his government would not conduct rescue operations for those who will refuse to relocate to safer grounds when the rains start.

According to the governor, some of the politicians have been telling the residents not to move from their homes.

He, however, urged the residents to ignore such politicians saying they do not have their best interests at heart.

“My government will not support anybody who is still staying in flood-prone areas. We have spoken to people more than once not to ignore the warning by the Met department. We have given enough warnings but some have defied those appeals and moved back,” said the governor.
