President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday appointed a panel to oversee the selection of three commissioners at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Uhuru has named Zetech University VC Prof John Munene Njenga to chair the nine-member panel that will oversee the exercise once it kicks off.

The other members of the panel are Stanley Waudo (Mount Kenya University Vice-chancellor), Peter Ndoro (Kenya Private Schools Association),Kennedy Ogeto (Solicitor General), Dr Margaret Kirai, Francis Nganga, Prof Nura Mohamed and Hellen Ambasa. 

The commissioners at the TSC terms are not renewable.  The retired commissioners are Saadia Abdi Kontoma, Cleophas Tirop and Salome Gichura. 

The trio’s six year term ended early this year.The Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia is also expected to retired at the end of the year.

The departure of the commissioner left behind a leadership vacuum at the TSC ahead of the new appointment. 

The current commissioners are Beatrice Adu, Albert Ekirapa, Mbarak Twahir, Lydia Nzomo, Kinoti Imanyara and Tache Gollo.

The commission has already declared the position vacant following the exit of the commissioners. 

Applicants from different parts of the country have been asked to drop their letters for consideration.

The panel will interview and select the best candidate for the position to allow smooth running of services.
