Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga were expected to host a number of regional presidents for the grand opening of the multi-billion newly-refurbished Kisumu Port.

And while Statehouse Spokesperson Kanze Dena says it was postponed to give Uhuru time to settle, since he has just returned from abroad, reports on the ground indicate that there might have been plans to disrupt the event.

The Standard has since established that there were plans by locals unhappy with the demolition of about 3000 stalls for the expansion of the port, to disrupt the function.

The paper had also learnt that the contractors on site failed to beat the deadline, resulting in delayed completion of the ongoing works.

Contacted over the allegations, Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyongo's Communication Director and Organizing Committee Secretary Alloice Ager refused to comment on the claims.

The same came from Regional Commissioner James Kianda.

“I am not the one to talk about that. Let the team consult and we will call you back to give you clear information about the event," said Ager on Wednesday, after Statehouse confirmed the postponement.

Uhuru and the guests were to hold a public rally at the Mamboleo Showground after the function.
