In what appears to be escalating differences within Jubilee party, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has yet again expressed disappointment in government which he serves.

In a series of tweets on Saturday, Murkomen insisted that the government has violated the rights of Canada-based lawyer Miguna Miguna, adding that he should be allowed him.

Dr Miguna Miguna was deported twice from the country in 2018, sparking a heated debate on his nationality. He has since won several court cases against government.

And Murkomen, a staunch supporter of Deputy President William Ruto, regretted that he failed to defend Miguna Miguna's rights when it mattered.

"I never said Miguna is not a Kenyan. I however kept quiet as he suffered. But there are those who violated several court orders and should take the earliest opportunity to rewrite their wrongs," he said

"In my short political career, I have learned that we must not allow citizen rights to be violated for short term political gains. We must defend human rights for all even for those we don’t agree with politically. Political interests are temporary human rights are God given," added the Elgeyo-Marakwet senator.

The second term legislator poked holes at Prof Makau Mutua, urging him to divert his energy towards fighting for Miguna Miguna's return instead of attacking him often.

"You keep attacking me. But I wish to let you know that handshake means peace and tranquility. As an ostensible human rights lawyer I want you to focus your energy on bringing @MigunaMiguna back home," he said.

Last year, High Court Judge Chacha Mwita ruled that Dr Miguna Miguna is a Kenyan despite holding Canadian passport. He also instructed Dr Fred Matiang'i and Maj Gen Kihalangwa to pay him Sh7 million.
