The enemies of our tribe will tell you that we are not romantic. It may be a stereotype, but we don’t see a need to express our emotions ‘loudly.’

Is there a story unfolding in your community? Let Hivisasa know

We love, not with embellishment or a sense of undue braggadocio.

It follows that it is quite simple to a Kalenjin man’s heart. Just in the same vein of not doing much, we do not demand much from our women.

Sometimes we don’t even have definite plans, but meeting somewhere under the sky and being alive with our beloveds.

These are the things you should do to win a 'Kale' man's heart.

Be a good cook

We don’t demand much from the kitchen, just something palatable and not poisonous. Hahaha, I am kidding. You should be an excellent cook. It may look cute at first if your ultimate expression of culinary expertise will be ‘beeeeb, it terrific what?!! Pizza things!!’ We have eaten homemade food since we were kids and we don’t expect a change in that trend.

Respect

Trust me, no one wants a woman who quarrels every time. It shows a lack of respect. We don’t need the kind of respect that makes one go down on one knee. We need the kind that says you are the head of the house and I trust the decisions you make are best for the family, or both of you in case you don’t have a family yet.

Hygiene

When I talk about hygiene, I don’t mean your hygiene. There’s no question about that. A clean woman is the number one thing. The hygiene I am talking about is doing laundry, cleaning the house, and the dishes. We may be a little liberalized but the last thing a 'Kale' man wants to hear is that a woman who says she won’t do the cleaning. Worse is when the friends get wind of it: 'umekaliwa na wife'.
