Embattled Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chief executive officer Ezra Chiloba has finally been sent packing.
Wafula Chebukati's IEBC made the announcement through a signed letter on Friday evening, a move that could ignite yet another storm at the commission.
This is a culmination of protracted animosity between Chebukati and Chiloba with the latter serving two suspensions in between, both overturned by the Industrial and Labour Relations Court.
For some months now, Mr. Chebukati, the chairperson of the commission, has accused Chiloba of flouting procurement procedures during the 2017 elections with billions believed to have lost between.
The latest move could yet again throw the electoral body into unimaginable predicament given that already, four commissioners had resigned.
It started with Roselyne Akombe who moved out last year in October, few days to Presidential repeat elections, arguing that the commission was partial.
And this year, commissioners Paul Kurgat, Margaret Mwachanya and Vice Chair Connie Maina also bowed out, a move that was disowned by Chebukati.
But recently, Mwachanya and Ms. Maina's attempt to make a comeback met resistance after the chairman locked their offices.
On his part, Chebukati has always accused Chiloba of conspiring with external forces to manipulate August 2017 polls besides linking him with massive corruption through procurement.
When the court reinstated Chiloba, Mr. Chebukati changed padlocks to his office arguing that he would only be allowed back after auditing is complete.
Despite the unending squabbles, the commission, with remaining part of the secretariat, has however managed to carry out a number of by-elections with the Migori senatorial polls this week being the latest.
Commission's communication officer Andrew Limo confirmed the dismissal, adding that he had refused to appear before disciplinary committee.
Mr. Chiloba reportedly received the letter and insisted that it was 'pointless to appear since the committee had preconceived opinion about him'.
