Soy MP Caleb Kositany is seeking to succeed Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago in the upcoming 2022 elections, an analyst has said.
Josphat Kosgei, a political commentator in the county, described the MP as Deputy President William Ruto's confidant, owing to the fact that he is always defending the DP against his critics.
Kosgei gave an example of when Kositany drummed up support for Ruto's advice to farmers in the county to diversify their farming, as opposed to only relying on maize farming.
“Kositany is making his political advancements by being an outspoken leader and by defending his boss (Ruto). He must be eying the top seat in the county,” said Kosgei.
Kosgei further argued that the MP stands a chance to clinch the seat as he hails from the largest Kalenjin sub-tribe in the county.
Kositany has on several occasions hit out at local leaders in the county including Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and businessman Zedekiah Bundotich arguing that his sub-tribe has a big say in determining Uasin Gishu's next governor.
”He is a shrewd politician who is always associated with the DP. The political dynamics in the county will favour his future hidden ambitions,” added Kosgei.
The analyst further argued that by always accompanying DP Ruto, the MP is trying to endear himself to the public.
“He must be harbouring dreams behind his loyalty to the DP. He knows when to publicly declare his interest,” said Kosgei.
