Mutua noted that the silence by the members of the clergy is a matter of serious concern.

Speaking in Mombasa on Tuesday when he met teachers from the Eastern region, Mutua urged religious leaders to be vocal and castigate graft.

The Machakos governor slammed a section of religious leaders who he accused of accepting suspicious monies for development.

He said that some of the monies being issued in churches by some politicians could be proceeds of corruption.

Mutua said it is ironical that some religious leaders are accepting monies and donations from people suspected to be thieves.

“It is even worse when on receiving blood money, they declared that ‘God loves a cheerful giver’ to their members whose children are unemployed and life is difficult due to rampant corruption in Kenya,” said the governor.

Mutua stated that religious leaders must lead from the front and help the government agencies eliminate the corruption dragon.

“We need to be real as a society in this fight against graft and not just look at President Uhuru Kenyatta and investigative and prosecuting agencies for a miracle,” he added.

Governor Mutua asked President Kenyatta to be firm in the fight against graft and assured him that he has the support of Kenyans.
