At around 10:30am, Matiang'i who was accompanied by Kisii Women Representative Janet Ong'era, drove to Kisii School to usher in Ruto who had just landed.

The duo then drove together to the neighbouring Kereri Girls to usher in President Uhuru Kenyatta and was joined by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Chief Justice David Maraga.

In December 2018, Matiang'i openly differed with Dr Ruto over the tender for police uniforms in which Matiang'i accused Ruto of exerting undue pressure to his interior ministry.

And in January 2019, the elevation of Matiang'i by Uhuru as Chairman of powerful National Development and Communication Cabinet Committee caused jitters among Ruto's team with some viewing it as a plot to dismember the DP.

At leaders meeting in Kisii School Matiang'i said: "I will work for you with honesty and integrity Mr President. You gave me this job and I will ensure we deliver."

On his part, Deputy President William Ruto asked local leaders to support the government agenda, adding that he is ready to work with all leaders.

"The president has a major objective of delivering the Big Four agenda. As members of his team, we must work harmoniously. That is what we must do."

Dr Matiang'i will now be monitoring and supervising all government projects across the country, a role previously performed by Dr William Ruto.
