Mr Kuria and his Mathira counterpart Rigathi Gachagua said they support the President’s nomination adding that Ms Serem should be vetted fairly.

Last week, Mr Duale while addressing the house asked the Defense and Foreign Relations Committee to reject Ms Serem’s nomination for slashing MPs benefits.

Mr Kuria however while speaking during a funds drive in Nyeri said that he will mobilise other members of parliament to pass the nomination of Dr Serem.

“Victimising Dr Serem for doing her job will set a bad precedent for the National Assembly. As a Jubilee MP I support the President’s appointment and she should know she is safe to come to the assembly.”

“Dr Serem is an appointee of the President Uhuru Kenyatta and by extension his Deputy so the office of the presidency is separate from the legislature and Parliament should conduct its business in an independent manner,” he said.

The former SRC chairperson has been nominated as ambassador to China subject to parliament approval.

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua said that Ms Serem should not be victimized by the vetting committee for carrying out her duties as the chairperson of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.

“She should not feel intimidated to come for vetting a the assembly the August house is a House of Reason. Besides as the president’s nominee she should get the full support of the Jubilee MPs,” he added.
