Homa Bay governor Cyprian Awiti was on Tuesday forced to part with Sh25,000 to calm youths who stormed his office.
Awiti was held hostage by the youth who demanded answers over his absence from office. The embattled county boss was accused of failing in his mandate. The youth called on his party ODM to provide another candidate for the seat.Awiti has lost two election petitions to his rival Oyugi Magwanga with hopes of retaining the seat in the hands of the court of appeal. During the incident, Awiti's bodyguards unsuccessfully tried to sneak him out of the building since the youth had blocked all entry points. The youth had demanded to be given Sh50, 000 but could only afford half the amount.“Some individuals spread propaganda that Awiti fears going back to the election. I never went to the courts in the first place. My opponent did. I was told there are avenues to justice, so I must use it,” said Awiti.
