Deputy President William Ruto has been receiving varied opinions on his popularity in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region ahead of 2022.
At an almost proportional scale, teams 'Kieleweke' and 'Tanga Tanga' have been declaring opposition and support respectively to Ruto's presidential ambition of succeeding President Uhuru as his term nears expiry. However, one powerful woman politician is fast emerging to be a new threat to Ruto's survival in 2022 and even beyond.
Rachel Shebesh, the Chief Administrative Secretary in Youth Affairs docket recently led at least 25 legislators from the Mt Kenya region to grace a series of events in supporting the Raila-Uhuru handshake that has not gone well with the DP.
What should cause sleepless nights to Ruto is the Tuesday meeting, where Shebesh held hours of serious talks with Raila Odinga at the ODM's Capitol Hill head offices.
Coupled with this, the former Nairobi Woman Representative has in the past backed Odinga's presidential ambitions sometime in April this year.
"I want to take you without fear or favour Your Excellency. Our people from Mt Kenya, a Jubilee stronghold, are with you," Shebesh had said in a past event.
This happens even as Raila's stand on 2022 presidential campaigns remains unclear. He is yet to go public if his name will be on the ballot come the electioneering period.
